Upwey Ferntree Gully Baseball Club accomplished what it, simply, had to do against the bottom two teams on the State League Division 1 ladder last week — the Tigers had to score runs and score plenty of them.

Upwey Ferntree Gully bats are starting to blaze.

The Tigers thrashed Bonbeach, 12-0, last Saturday after dispatching Sunshine, 13-0, three days earlier.

“After backing up after Wednesday night against Sunshine and scoring 13 runs and doing it again on the weekend was fantastic,’’ coach Mitch Ayres said.

‘‘It seems the boys have turned a bit of a stone after the Geelong loss and turned it around a bit.’’

Ayres said was pleased with how the Tigers applied themselves compared to recent matches.

‘‘The guys came up with a different attitude against Geelong and weren’t really in the game from the start,’’ he said.

‘‘They got it together over the last two games and have come out swinging the bats fantastically.

‘‘You can’t really fault them at the moment.’’

The Tigers have winnable games against Doncaster and Newport in the remaining two rounds of the season.

‘‘We’ve got a chance to win the last of t he three-game series (against Doncaster),’’ the Tigers coach said.

‘‘Hopefully, we can then get a game-and-a-half ahead of them on the ladder with only one game to go in the season.

‘‘We are a chance to finish eighth spot, if not seventh.’’
